community site that houses 40 families 240 people that is on the edge of a former dump site. See the book "The Rent Collector" to read a heart tearing story about the workers at this infamous
Dumpsite. The people here were being evicted by the owner when CCF purchased the 1/2 acre site for $400,000. The "houses" will be moved off and the site will be raised about 18 inches to drain.
LDSC is providing funds to put a wall around the community to protect if from the rifraf, trash dumpers, and other transient problems, building two latrin houses with wash stations, and reinforcing the roof to do catch water recovery. We will also bring electricity and water in. Each family will pay $10.00 per month for rent on their space and receive a $5.00 credit if they send their children to school. They sign a contract with CCF that they will obey the rules;no drugs, no alcohol no beating your wife or kids, send their children to school etc. This can be a hardship because the children are needed to scronge with their parents in the new dump and in the street to make an income to feed their families. NOTHING is thrown away in Cambodia except some plastic.
CCF provides medical attention, schooling at a very low cost and has about 2000 people under their umbrela. We are glad to partner with them because they followup and stay in their projects.
If the residents follow the rules after a time then CCF will rebuild the community as shown in the last picture.
It ia a humbling experience for Sister Meinzer and I to serve in Cambodia and awonderful adventure.

So much for the beauty....now the others side we have also heard about. ....and I thought life was hard on my Indian mission and in the Peace Corps....these conditions are appalling. The church really send the right couple to make the situation better.
